Hey, it’s Paul. 🤓
Over the past several months, one idea has become crystal clear to me.
Compliance is the mechanism.
And trust is the product.
Every conversation I have with business brokers, M&A advisors, buyers, sellers, accountants, attorneys, lenders, and industry partners points to the same conclusion.
Main Street M&A does not need another disconnected AI tool.
It needs infrastructure that helps trusted professionals do what they do best while raising the standard for everyone.
That is why we are building CandaceAI.
The Industry Is Ready
A few weeks ago, I gave a keynote to the Silicon Valley chapter of the California Association of Business Brokers on AI and the new brokerage: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I expected skepticism.
What I found was curiosity, engagement, and optimism.
Brokers aren’t asking AI to replace judgment, relationships, or trust.
They want technology that removes administrative friction, improves preparation, protects confidential information, and gives them more time to advise their clients.
One comment from that day has stayed with me…
“It seems like you’ve been built for this.”
Maybe I have.
I hung my first business brokerage license at Business Team in 2006, went on to co-found Synesis Advisors, and later joined MicroAcquire, now Acquire.com, as its first employee, where I ultimately led M&A.
For 20 years, I’ve had a front-row seat to this industry and watched the same patterns repeat.
Deals rarely die because nobody found a buyer.
They die because preparation was incomplete, information was fragmented, accountability was unclear, or momentum disappeared between LOI and close.
The platforms of yesterday were built to generate introductions.
The platforms of tomorrow will be built to execute transactions.
Watch: AI and the New Brokerage
The good, the bad, and the ugly of AI in business brokerage.
Trust Must Be Built Into the Transaction
Today, multimillion-dollar transactions are still managed through spreadsheets, inboxes, text messages, disconnected folders, and conversations that disappear the moment the call ends.
A document gets updated, but nobody knows which version is final.
A diligence request sits unanswered.
A disclosure is discussed but never recorded.
A lender changes terms.
A buyer loses confidence.
A seller gets frustrated.
Momentum disappears.
Then risk shows up.
Trust cannot depend on everyone remembering what happened.
It needs a system of record.
That means verified information.
Organized documents.
Clear permissions.
Defined ownership.
Embedded compliance.
Recorded approvals.
Visible timelines.
An auditable history of who did what, when, and why.
This is not about turning advisors into administrators.
It is about giving advisors infrastructure worthy of the responsibility they already carry.
AI will become table stakes, but trust won’t.
The Operating System for Main Street M&A
CandaceAI is being built as the operating system for Main Street M&A, spanning readiness, valuation, listing preparation, NDAs, buyer qualification, diligence, lender and attorney collaboration, compliance, and closing.
But the real product is not the workflow itself.
The real product is confidence.
Confidence that the information is complete.
Confidence that the right people are involved.
Confidence that the process is moving.
Confidence that important decisions are documented.
Confidence that the transaction can withstand scrutiny.
Every completed workflow should also make the next transaction smarter.
Closed deals, dead deals, diligence requests, advisor decisions, and post-transaction feedback all contain intelligence.
Properly structured, that knowledge becomes better playbooks, stronger benchmarks, earlier warnings, and better outcomes across the entire marketplace.
Content creates community.
Community improves workflow.
Workflow creates structured data.
Structured data becomes transaction intelligence.
Introducing the Candace Deal Partner Program
No platform can solve the ownership transition challenge alone.
That is why we created the Candace Deal Partner Program: a trusted ecosystem of professionals helping owners, buyers, brokers, and advisors before, during, and after a transaction.
Our founding cohort includes:
Avery Hastings, CPA, bringing financial diligence and transaction readiness expertise.
Nadine Jones, founder of Fix It First, helping owners identify and resolve the issues that destroy value before going to market.
Shawn Flynn, an entrepreneur, investor, and strategic advisor who has spent years helping founders grow, finance, and transition companies.
Each quarter, Candace Deal Partners will share practical expertise on the most important issues, challenges, and changes shaping Main Street M&A.
This is not marketing disguised as education.
We are open-sourcing the knowledge required to buy, sell, and transition a business successfully.
The best expertise in this industry should not remain fragmented, inaccessible, or locked behind closed doors.
What Comes Next
We are continuing to build alongside active brokers and advisors, testing real workflows and learning where trust breaks down in real transactions.
We are preparing for our broader broker community launch around the CABB Annual Conference in San Diego this September.
We are expanding the Deal Partner ecosystem, developing readiness education, and building a searchable body of practitioner intelligence that can improve every part of the transaction journey.
And we are staying focused on the mission that brought us here.
Millions of businesses will need to transition over the coming decades.
Those businesses represent jobs, families, communities, founder legacies, and the next generation’s opportunity to build wealth through ownership.
Technology can make those transitions faster.
Compliance can make them safer.
But trust is what makes them possible.
Where does trust break down most often in a business transaction?
Hit reply and tell me what you have seen. I read every one.
Main Street is worth fighting for.
